Urgent Crisis Update: Facing famine on the frontlines

Right now, in the most remote corners of the Horn of Africa, an unprecedented crisis is unfolding. Following five consecutive failed rainy seasons, historic drought has desiccated pasturelands, decimated livestock, and collapsed local food systems. More than 18 million people are currently facing acute food insecurity, with millions standing on the very precipice of famine. At Hope Horizon International, our emergency response teams are working day and night to deliver lifesaving aid. But as the crisis deepens, the scale of the need is rising at a staggering pace. We are writing to you today to share a direct update from our teams on the ground and to ask for your continued, critical partnership. The Frontline Reality: Delivering Lifesaving Stabilization Our response is focused on immediate survival and long-term stabilization. Over the past sixty days, we have established ten new emergency feeding and stabilization centers in the hardest-hit rural corridors. Our community health workers are traveling on foot and by motorcycle to reach isolated pastoralist settlements, carrying Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF)—a highly nutrient-dense peanut paste—and essential rehydration salts. Beyond nutritional support, we are tackling the secondary driver of famine: waterborne illness. Clean water is the first line of defense against diseases like cholera, which spread rapidly during droughts. Thanks to your support, our engineering teams have already repaired 18 critical deep-water boreholes, restoring safe water access to over 40,000 people. A Life Saved: Aishah’s Journey To understand the true impact of your generosity, you only have to look at three-year-old Aishah. When Aishah arrived at our mobile clinic in Galcaio, she was severely emaciated, weakened by prolonged diarrhea, and weighed less than half of what a healthy child her age should. Her mother had walked for two days across the dry plains in a desperate search for medical assistance. Our clinical team immediately placed Aishah on a strict, three-week therapeutic feeding protocol. Slowly, the light returned to her eyes. Today, Aishah is smiling, active, and her weight has stabilized. "We had lost everything to the drought," her mother told us. "This center saved my daughter's life." Aishah is just one of thousands of children who now have a future because you chose to stand with us. Our Q2 Impact at a Glance: 142,000+ individuals reached with emergency food rations. 24,500 children successfully treated for severe acute malnutrition. 18 solar-powered boreholes rehabilitated and purified. 35 remote villages regularized under our mobile medical clinic routes. How You Can Stand With Us Today We are stretching every resource to expand our reach, but we cannot do it alone. Please consider making a lifesaving donation today to help us keep our mobile clinics stocked and running: $45 can provide a full monthly cycle of therapeutic food (RUTF) to nurse a severely malnourished child back to health. $120 can supply clean drinking water purification tablets to an entire hamlet for three months, keeping deadly waterborne diseases at bay. $350 can fund a mobile health clinic's fuel and medical supply kits for a full week, allowing us to reach families stranded in off-grid regions. The window to prevent widespread loss of life is closing rapidly, but collective action can change the course of this crisis. Thank you for your unwavering compassion and for being a beacon of hope for those facing their darkest hours. With deepest gratitude, The Emergency Response Team Hope Horizon International
